MADISON, Wisconsin – October 3, 2011 – The Alliant Energy Foundation has provided the Professional Dairy Producers Foundation with a $5,000 grant in support of the Dairy Mentor Program. The Dairy Mentor Program pairs post-secondary students with dairy producers for an on-farm job shadow and career coaching experience.
"We believe an educated and skilled workforce is crucial to the vitality of our communities, so Community Grants are given to educational programs that foster innovation and develop future leaders," said Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director, Julie Bauer. "That's why we believe it is important to connect young people with enthusiastic mentors to help inspire careers in dairy production."
In addition to the on-farm job shadowing experience, the Dairy Mentor Program also exhibits various dairy industry career paths and encourages lifelong learning among the participants. Mentor pairs are also afforded opportunities to attend technical and business training together.
"The dairy industry is a $26.5 billion business in Wisconsin and it contributes greatly to the economic and cultural vibrancy of our state and the Midwest," said Deb Reinhart, Chairwoman of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin Foundation. “By carefully cultivating the next generation, we help increase confidence in what we do as dairy producers – caring for land, animals, and producing quality milk and dairy products"
